Djursland International Institute of Rural Wireless Broadband
- is a project in the first phase of its development
The goal is, amongst many things, to establish:-Training in organisation and establishment of wireless networks, both for rural landscapes but also for towns all over the world. Using the experiences gained in building and establishing The DjurslandS.net
- Projects for wireless networks in 3.world countries, through a study and planning progress in Denmark (in Djursland), and after the study period has ended, helping to start up the wireless networks on location.
- A pysical frame for both training and research in technologies of wireless networking.
We would like to establish a platform for both researchers-, especially grassroots, to focus specifically in the field of their interest, and thereby create synergi and innovation.
- Sittingboxes to support the projects of entrepreneurs that will come as an result of the research made on the Institute.
- Target the training to the needs of the students, so they get the most out of it, being able to be selvsufficient when they leave the Institute.
- To be at service to the students who has left and have started their networks, always giving them backup in the form of help to solve technical problems.
- To supply networks with prefinished portals of E-learning, localnews, private homepages, and local businesses, to ease the starting up for them.

The Dutch city of Amsterdam has committed itself back in 2003 to running fiber to every home and business. After some years of fighting especially the EU system, the project has 2006 started with 40,000 homes, or about 10% of the city.

By 2010, everyone in the city will have access to 100 mb/s data fiber and another fiber for all kinds of TV. There will be a wide variety of private, ngo and community sector services–in other words, competition and choice. One of our german partner in the Baltic Rural Broadband project invited to Internationalen Niedersächsischen Breitbandtage May 22-23 in the City Hall of Osterholz-Scharmbeck.
The broadbanddays was launched under the motto “Connections creates the future”, and was organized by our partner Landkreis Osterholz in cooperation with local industrial organisations and the ministery for enterprise, labour and transport in the NiederSaxon.

The Broadband Days was organized as a series of speaches from public sector representatives as well as from enterprises. Also local broadband-initiatives from the partners were represented, from Djursland represented by Bjarke, Charlotte and Ove. Bjarke presented a speach under the headline “Djursland net - internet as a bottom-up process. Report from a voluntarily organized citizen’s network”.
Also at the conference there were steering commitee meetings in the two European Union project, which we are part of. Both of the meetings was presented with a detailed description of the communitynetwork at Djurslands.
